There are lots of ways to get involved with Dystonia UK - whether you have a few hours to spare or want to take on a longer-term role. Every volunteer helps us raise awareness, support people living with dystonia, and strengthen our community.

Explore the opportunities below to find something that’s right for you.

Occasional opportunities

If you’d like to get involved but can’t commit long term, our occasional roles are perfect. These one-off activities are a great way to give something back, meet new people, and try something different, even if you only have a little time to spare. Examples include:

  • Event helpers
We host fundraising, awareness, and support events throughout the year, and they take a team effort to run! You could help with event prep, logistics, or even cheer on our marathon runners.

  • Awareness ambassadors
Help us spread the word about dystonia by delivering information materials to local clinics or treatment centres — simple but powerful work that helps raise awareness where it’s needed most.

  • Story sharers
Sharing your experience can make a huge difference. Your story might help someone feel less alone, understand a diagnosis, or find hope. You can share through events, our Dystonia Matters magazine, or our podcast.

Longer-term roles

Some roles involve a longer commitment and specific skills. These opportunities are ideal if you can give more time and want to play a key part in shaping our work and supporting the dystonia community. Examples include:

  • Office heroes
Our London office is a lively hub powered by a small but mighty team. Office heroes help with administration, fundraising, and projects helping us make an even bigger impact.

  • Group coordinators
Our support groups have been at the heart of Dystonia UK for over 40 years. They’re all volunteer-led, with guidance from our staff team. You could support an existing group or help start a new one in your area.

  • Trustees
Our Board of Trustees is made up entirely of volunteers who help guide the charity’s direction and ensure good governance. Trustees are elected by our members for a three-year term and play a vital role in shaping our future.
